Backyard Worship

Read about Backyard Worship

Canadian worship collective Backyard Worship brings nothing new to the table. They, like many around them, write songs for the Church to use as anthems to worship Jesus.

Born in 2018, BYW began, writing and leading worship out of a burning desire to see Christ’s name lifted high. Not to perform or entertain the Church, but to simply and humbly lead others into worship of Jesus. They love the Word, Jesus, and His way. They long to bring Him glory with every moment.

Teaching Topic

Perhaps a young adult’s life could be represented by different fruit trees. As believers, we are called to bear fruit and to live our lives connected to the vine (Jesus). In a world where everyone wants to produce something, create things that last or have it all together, there can be a tendency to depend on your own abilities instead of God’s intended plan for you — taking matters into your own hands (removing yourself from the vine). But what happens when we are getting pruned and things are hard, while someone else looks like they are enjoying the fruit that God has produced in their life? Comparison sets in, we get discouraged, we get off course, we check out, we give up etc. Sometimes we could be exactly where God wants us to be, but on the outside, it doesn’t look like anything will come of it. That’s where we need to remember that as long as we are connected to the vine, we are letting God trim back the branches that need to be cut (forgiveness, repentance etc.), we are letting Him produce in us the good fruit and we give our roots time to grow deep, then we can handle the different phases of being a young adult.

It was an incredible time to connect with others my age. Meeting new friends, many of whom were in different geological areas and also different areas of vocation than I, was uplifting. It was SO encouraging and I came away feeling spurred on in my Christian faith to love and good deeds.

– 11/9/2021

I enjoyed meeting new people, who were going through different stages in life. I was encouraged to see how God is working in our lives in unique ways. The teaching challenged me to live out my faith, and to focus on the journey instead of the arrival. I was also reminded to sit in the silence, so that God can speak to me.

– 11/9/2021

It was a nice opportunity to get away from the busyness of school, refocus on God and spend time connecting with other young adults.

– 11/9/2021

The time spent with friends outside enjoying each activity was amazing. The teaching was very applicable and rooted in scripture. The opportunity to gather around a fire each night and meet new people was also very special.
