Through the Widjiitiwin program, MBC partners with community leaders who are engaged with young people in communities where youth are experiencing socio-economic barriers that may prevent them from being able to attend traditional summer camp. Our partners bring youth that they are in a relationship with year-round to Camp Widjiitiwin, where they enjoy an amazing week of summer camp.
Guelph
Church of the City has been partnering with Widjiitiwin and local neighbourhood groups for several years to bring youth they’ve connected with from their local community centre and their church to camp each summer. We’re excited to partner with them again this summer!
Hamilton
Widjiitiwin partners with James North Church in Hamilton to bring youth from their surrounding neighbourhood to camp. Under the leadership of Derek Hisson, the church’s youth program reaches out to nearby schools through a drop-in program as well as other community partnerships. Many of these kids wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to come to camp, and we’re excited about welcoming them this summer!
Community Leaders, Kevin Motiram and Scott Veals are working together to share Christ’s love with youth in North York. Scott is an outreach worker with Youth Unlimited GTA and Kevin is Youth Pastor at Emmanuel Church. Together, they run programs for youth in their community and look forward to their annual trip bringing many youths to Camp Widjiitiwin who may not otherwise have opportunity to do so.
For the past two years, Community leaders from Urban Promise joined the North York group to bring grade eights from their leadership program to camp, we’re excited to welcome them back!

Malvern
In 2010, under the direction of Mike Greenfield, Camp Widjiitiwin launched its first partnership week with Toronto Police Officer Mark Gray in Malvern. Since that first year, these partnership weeks have grown, and the impact has been incredible in these communities.
In keeping with our MBC vision to partner with the local church, for the past two years we have included community leader Kesavan Balasingham, Pastor of Rouge Park Church and members of his church as part of this partnership. Together, Constable Mark and Pastor Kesavan will be bringing deserving youth to camp again this summer from the Malvern community.
South Etobicoke
Capstone Community Bible Church, along with Youth Unlimited in South Etobicoke has been partnering to bring youth to camp Widjiitiwin from both their church community and the outreach programs they run in the Etobicoke Lakeshore area. This camp week has been highly transformative for the youth who have attended each summer.
“NEW” Scarborough
This past year was our first year partnering with community leaders who lead Doxa Daycamps in Scarborough, a ministry of Youth Unlimited, Toronto. The Doxa Daycamp team runs daycamps at three locations in Scarborough throughout the summer and this Widjiitiwin partnership week was a great way to end their summer of ministry. We look forward to partnering with the Doxa Daycamp team again this summer.
